What a start

My morning commute consists of a fairly short drive from home to Edward's nursery, then onto Liz's work in Reigate and finally back to my home office in Redhill. This is normally a pretty uneventful drive that should take around 15 minutes but typically takes 30 at the moment with traffic and road works.

This morning was in some ways much like most other mornings, the journey started and finished at about the normal times (given that we generally run late!). However there were a few slightly unusual highlights that I thought I'd share today...

  • Entering the car park to Liz's work a cyclist decided to stop in the middle of the road. This one didn't catch me by surprise, it was actually fairly predictable. The adult cycling along the road was escorting their child who was cycling along the pavement. However the adult was someway ahead of the child and rather than pull over before the car park entrance to wait for their child, they decided to cycle into the middle of the entrance road and stop there to wait for them. They seemed to be rather put out that I beeped at them while we all sat still, with me blocking a main road, waiting for their child to catch up!
  • Driving towards the car park exit a pedestrian stepped out from behind a brick wall without looking at all, causing me to make my first emergency stop of the morning!
  • Going around (I was even indicating) the large roundabout outside Redhill station a very large truck decided to slow down, think and then pull onto it in front of me, causing my second emergency stop of the morning.
  • The final road before getting to the estate where we live currently has road works reducing it to a single lane for quite a long way, with traffic lights at each end. I waited patiently at the lights until they turned green. About half way along the single lane section a taxi approached a T-junction and without stopping decided to pull straight out into the single lane to face me head on. That's three emergency stops I've now made in one morning!

Now should I be worried that something is out to get me, or should I just consider myself lucky that the brakes on my car work well!?
